Running Tip: Rotational Ab Exercises

If you want to work on your running form, start with your core. Core strength contributes greatly to overall running form and ability.

But instead of sticking to your typical crunches and planks, a study has found that incorporating rotational ab exercises is extremely important for runners. This is because it’s not just core strength that plays a role in running form, but hip and trunk strength as well. By incorporating rotational exercises, you’re able to target all those muscles at once.

A study compared the muscle thickness of a group that did only traditional ab exercises vs a group that did rotational ones. his study shows that a rotary-based core exercise program may be more effective than a traditional core exercise program to recruit the oblique muscles. The test group was much more effective at increasing muscle, therefore more effective at strengthening.
